01 / neighborhoods

Find your everyday Orlando.

Explore Thornton Park for a downtown neighborhood feel, Mills 50 for dining and local character, and Ivanhoe Village for lakeside stops and independent businesses.

Nearby Winter Park pairs Park Avenue cafés and shops with Central Park and a chain of lakes. Visit a few areas before choosing where to live—and test the trip to your actual training locations.

02 / nightlife

Dinner can turn into a night out.

Downtown offers bars, music and late-night energy. For a more relaxed evening, explore the restaurants and neighborhood gathering spots around Thornton Park, Mills 50 and Ivanhoe Village.

Make a night of a show at the Dr. Phillips Center, or head to Universal CityWalk for dining and live entertainment. Check venue calendars when you have an evening free.

03 / sports

Your next home team.

Catch the Orlando Magic on the basketball court, Orlando City SC in MLS or the Orlando Pride in the NWSL.

For a sports medicine fellow, the city’s sports culture extends beyond work. Pick a team, bring a friend and enjoy the game from the stands.

04 / lakes parks

A little green space goes a long way.

Lake Eola’s 0.9-mile path gives a downtown walk or run a simple loop. In Winter Park, spend an unhurried afternoon around Central Park or explore the chain of lakes.

Harry P. Leu Gardens offers another way to slow down among landscaped gardens. These are easy starting points for building a weekend routine.

05 / outdoors

Trade the city for the springs.

Wekiwa Springs State Park brings hiking, swimming and canoeing or kayaking within reach of an Orlando day off. Trails and spring-fed waterways make a different kind of Florida outing.

Plan ahead: check the park’s current entry reservations, conditions and rental availability before you leave.

06 / Beach days

The Atlantic is your day trip.

Orlando is inland. When you want the coast, head east and make a day of it—allowing time for traffic, parking and a slow lunch.

08 / Making the move

Find a routine that works for you.

Start with your commute

Map the journey to your training sites at the times you expect to travel. Compare parking, tolls and transport options before signing a lease.

Try the neighborhood

Visit on a weekday and a weekend. Look for the things you will use often: groceries, a gym, a walking route and somewhere to meet friends.

Ask the current fellows

Bring your questions about settling in, balancing the week and finding your favorite local spots to your visit or interview.
